In Him We Live
Perhaps we have never existed outside the Presence we have been trying so hard to find.
Acts 17:28 offers us a different way of seeing our relationship with God: “In Him we live and move and have our being.”
His nearness does not begin with our awareness of it. Perhaps encounter is less about finding our way into His Presence and more about awakening to the Presence in which we have always been held.
In Him we live. In Him we move. In Him we are.
Everlasting Love
Perhaps we have spent much of our lives trying to move toward a God whose Love has already been moving toward us.
Jeremiah speaks of an everlasting Love — a Love whose horizon we cannot find — and of hesed, the lovingkindness with which He draws us.
We are not drawn toward Love so that we might become loved.
We are drawn because we have always been loved.
Be Still
Perhaps “Be still” is not an invitation to try harder to become quiet.
Beneath these familiar words is the Hebrew raphah — to release, to loosen, to let go.
An invitation to unclench what we have been holding so tightly and discover that, beneath everything we cannot control, God is already here.
Release — and know.
